Rocket Singh- A review

There have been many a times since I have regretted watching a movie on the first day,but never this much.
Rocket singh is a terribly slow movie,it has its moments when you ld expect the movie to take a turn towards good, but alas never does that happen.

Ranbir happens to be a 2nd class commerce graduate who is looking for a salesman job.
Even after screwing an interview he gets a job(one of those scenes when the MD walks into the room and spots the right person by face).Ranbir(What was his name BTW,anyways..) is an extremely honest guy and ldn't bribe a General Manager to sell the product.

As a result he is seen as a third class salesman and is foridden to go anywhere for sales from that day and is treated shabbily by one and all(people throw paper rockets at him and all and thus the name of the movie :D).

During this idle time he realises that there is a huge margin for profits in this computer fitting job and using his newly found wisdom he strikes a deal with a customer.

He now gets an idea of starting a full time company using the resources of his mother company though he promises he ld return them once he gets established in his new company.

His honesty and better service soon bear fruit and his company strikes a lot of deals with big guns.

If till now story sounds appealing then trust me its not.
Its so slow that you can catch a nap in the meanwhile with no loss of info (may be its my style of writng that makes it interesting,anyways......)

Soon he involves all the important people of his mother company into his plan and gets the new company rolling.

Then one day when everything is going smooth their boss finds about this and calls the cops on them.

They are bailed out and Ranbir signs a bond forbidding him to work in computer related job for the next 3yrs.

Ranbir being a cow and a caring person(about his coworkers) gladly signs the petition and starts working as a salesman again somewhere else.

But now the mother company is not able to sell stuff as ranbir's culture is something they cant replilcate.

One fine day the boss goes to ranbir and returns him his company..

All happy. Audience furious Story over

My rating- 1/5

Get a nap better than watching this..

Love ajkal

After watching Jab We Met one really had great expectations from Imtiaz Ali.Alas in this film he lets the audience down. The first half still is watchable, where as the second half tests your patience rather than entertaining you
The first half takes you to london where saif wooes deepika in seconds(or was it microseconds). It made one feel if the picture really wanted to show something different by compromising with this part but sadly it never is able to stand tall on the expectations.

2yrs go by in 10mins and they both gracefully break up.The most expected happens as they still keep in touch with each other and in reality they both love each other, but hate to admit the same. The old and the experienced Rishi Kapoor enters and relates his old life to Saif's present. From here on the analogy begins and another bell of expectation rings which again like before is a false ring.
Interval after an hour and 5mins and you think may be the second half would give you your money's worth but 10mins into the second half and the plot is totally lost.
The audience find talking to their neighbors more interesting than the film itself.
The worst part for me in the film was long conversations between the leads which is neither humorous nor interesting and makes you reach for your mobiles to check the length of the movie left.
In both the plots(the old Rishi Kapoor's and the new Saif's)the guy gets his girl in the old and the most unimaginative ways again with no interesting scenes or dialogues on the way..
Finally the movie is over and the audience breathe a sign of relief ,and me the most.

The summary-nothing good or new about the movie except a few dance steps which looked like never seen before(even the songs were remixed).I will give the movie 1.5 stars only for the good london locations and the song steps.
advice-Dont dare watch this one.

Malaysia,foreign trip part-2

So we finally got stamped "Allowed to stay in Malaysia for 30 days, EMPLOYMENT PROHIBITED" on our passports. Picked our luggage and were on our way out.
Our guy stood there with a placard. He seemed so relieved on seeing some one recognize the name on his cardboard that one could see him shake hands with his other collegues, turned out that he had been standing there, one hand up for 2hours.

So looked like we were the only family traveling to Genting that day. Genting is a hill station around 60kms from KL airport. After all the pains we had been through on the flight and at the airport it was very difficult to keep one's eyes open.Still I tried very hard to hear my driver/guide tell about the Malyasian economy, the reason it made such rapid progress and stuff.

It was greenery all around with wide roads at the middle. He was maintaining a constant speed of around 120kmph there the boards used to say maintain speed of 120km/j. I still don't know what j means but whatever...

So looked like Kaulalampur city had come. Tall buildings, but yet greenery never left us.
We took a by-pass road to get to Batu caves. We hadn't reached the hotel, neither had we brushed our teeth, but the driver said we were going to a temple. Well that was not the best news one can hear I thought. The caves came and I fought my fatigue to get down to see the caves.

It is a temple of lord Karthikeya there. There are Indians in all parts of the world and wherever they go they build temples. This was a really mighty temple with a huge statue of the lord. Malaysia surely was doing a wonderful job of attracting foreigners. India has tens and hundreds of such scenic beauties yet no one cares to develop them in attractive ways. These people have so few yet they make every location a money minter.

I was thinking of reasons why a country of the might of India was so far behind countries like Malaysia. Of the many reasons the most important ones probably were
Our huge investment in military to fight against Pak. I was imagining a whole new India if it hadn't been for the ugly split which took place in 1947. Had India and Pak been together they would both have left behind many a countries behind but now 60 yrs after our independence we still are enemies and we both invest very very heavily in military to counter each other.
What a shame.
The other big reason I thought was India has a population which is eating away all its achievements away yet nothing solid is being done to make this problem go.

The 1st problem mentioned may take another half decade to be rectified but if the second problem doesn't get our attention soon then we are going to sink further.

Coming back to the scenic beauty. It was a lovely view which was enough to let our fatigue vanish. We climbed more than 200 stairs, seeked blessings from our god in a foreign land climbed the same number of steps down said hello to the monkeys on our way and were ready to continue our journey to the Genting Highlands.

1/2 hour later we alighted at the rope way station to reach the highlands.
Our driver handed us the rope-way tickets and said he would meet us upstairs.
We climbed on the rope-way and got ready for one of the biggest journeys of its kind.
After a very long queue of tourists later we sat on our car and saw some wonderful scenes. Time flew and we almost reached the end. On top was a huge huge hotel of more than 6000 rooms. Again the comparison started. How come our engineers and architects never made something so gigantic on such height. We have so much scope and so much talent so why this apathy. I would never know. Such sights made me more sad than happy.

Anyways cutting the melo-drama short. It really was one architectural brilliance sitting on top of a hill which I believe would be at least 2000m above sea level. So a 30 storey high hotel cum mall on top of such height. good job people.
We were taken to our hotel by our guide and it was an awesome view
Hundreds and thousands of tourists at a single place. Talking, clicking photos, laughing. Now this is what you call perfect globalisation.
We reached our room which was on the 11th floor. There were I guess at least a 50 lifts in that hotel and each travelled at super speed.I remember my head spinning while using them.

So after a short sleep later we went to explore our new hotel. It had a huge mall inside it.
Roller coasters and mini trains used to take the people for rides inside the mall itself.
People from all nationalities in all languages were psyched to see such lovely scenes.

People after their trips abroad always used to boast about this and that and I always used to think that it is only the stupidest of all people who get so badly influenced by such petty things but seeing the scenes here I knew what they felt like and I was so wrong in calling them stupids.

We had seen many a mall in our own country but neither one had such a creative design to it.
We had water where the boats were sailing, the tracks on top floor where the trains showed the view of the whole mall, Money changer at every floor to make tourists spend. How many of these things one can see here..

Things one could do there .There one felt when would the time come when I would have money in my pocket enough to enjoy all these.Indian money of rupees hardly had any value there. One aloo paratha costing 8 ringits or 8*14 rupees was one hell of a price to us Indians but we came to know that the garden plantors in Malaysia are paid atleast 1500rm per month.Well I still dont know how the currencies came to be valued in the beginning. Who was it who decided that one dollar would have 50 bucks and 1 ringit 14.It all looked so unfair to me at that point to see all currencies so overly priced.

Anyways 3nights flew like 3 hours in this magical place. On the 3rd day morning we left for KL city.......

First foreign trip

Well finally the day came when I knew I would wake up and set foot on a country which would not be India.Had this trip come a couple of years ago I would have been excited like no tomorrow but during these 2 years many of my friends had already become "foreign returns" and had traveled to places as far as Europe and America and I was just visiting my neighbor Malaysia.

A country which had got its independence 10 full years after us. So I was thinking what possible development it could have made in these petty 52 yrs. I was just expecting to see another New Delhi ( I have never been to New Delhi).

So the time was 12am,the place Chennai International airport and the adventure had already begun. Our plane was not supposed to take off until 230 am but what were we seeing. The giant display boards were showing 1230 as the time of departure. It was already 1215am and we had only reached the airport. We thought it was some mistake on the part of the airlines and we kept going at our own sweet pace. Got the boarding passes and proceeded towards emigration. Like always it was only my father who was carrying a pen. So we had only one pen to fill all the four emigration forms, my father was extremely meticulous and made sure no errors crept in so by 1230 we were done with the forms and I saw my name was entered wrongly in the forms. I shouted a bit,but dint want to spoil the fun so overwrote and in the most clumsiest ways possible re-entered the info on the same form.

So 1235, the flight departure being announced and we weren't even through the security check.Panic set in. Looked like my first trip abroad would have to wait for more years. We hurried only to see a 500m long line waiting for getting security checked. We, out of panic went straight to the security guard and told him about our situation, but he in a very casual mode asked us to come in line and said the flight wouldn't go anywhere. We weren't convinced, after all who would sue him if the plane flew anyways.

So there we stood in the long long line while the time was running out. Just then another amusing incident happened.Jet airways flight to the same destination which was scheduled to leave at 215 was now leaving on 1215. It was already 1235 and people traveling by this plane came and stood right behind us. Looking at their situation did do a lot of good to alleviate our blood pressures. Finally at 1 am we were through the formalities and were all set to board the plane. We were going after all.

After walking down the Anna International airport for what looked like at least 2kms we saw our boarding gate and went through and sat in the plane. We thought we would be the last ones to enter but turned out 2 dozen more people came after we sat. For every person entering the plane my mother would say "We could have come even now".Finally after the 24Th person entered the plane and I was sick of listening to the same dialogue of my mother we finally took off.

The idiots of Air-India had put the AC to the coolest level I guess and I was wearing only a T-shirt. I felt very cold through out the night and the attitude of the air-hostesses was so cold that I even felt scared to press the button to ask for a rug, but I finally did which the hostess handed to me with a very cold face.

Looks like one of the reasons why MAHARAJA is going through losses is its air-hostesses' indifference for their work. I was on board for more than 4hrs but dint see one smile on their faces.Looked like they were being made to work against their wills or weren't getting properly paid, anyways with the promise that I wouldn't fly Air-India again(except on my return trip, which was on the same flight). I went to sleep. I got up in the middle of my sleep all coughing and sneezing.

Actually getting colds was nothing new for me but this was the season of swine flu. Thermal checking and checking for dripping noses es everywhere. So after a little prayer I went to sleep again to wake up at KL international airport.Just before landing we were given the forms to be filled for the Malaysian government. One of the co-passengers was probably not too good in English so he handed the form to my sister. She nonchalantly swapped his place of birth for his place of issue of passport and quietly handed him over his form and passport back and said -"I will fill the rest once the plane lands" .Now she was really nervous about what to say to him after landing as she has messed up his form, I scared her even more. evil me. The guy, we thought would give his piece of mind upon landing but turned out he left without a word.

So there we were standing in Kaula Lampur international airport. Till then I thought the best airport in the world was- Rajeev Gandhi International airport, Hyderabad. As it was finished only 2 yrs ago with the state of the art facilities, but my beliefs vanished straight away. This older KL airport had the best branded outlets which I had only seen in the best malls of India. Over priced articles kept under the banner of "duty free" and chocolates and everything. nice nice. Well done Malaysia nice job I thought. We started looking where we would get our luggage so that we would pick that up and go towards the immigration counter.

We went for a walk there but still no signs of the conveyor belt. There was one T.V which displayed our flight number and against it was written-"BAKU". some word in the MALAI language which we later found(after 2days) meant OPEN. We were in the middle of our walk when a train arrived. Well what in the name of God was a train doing in an airport. We thought lets board it and see where it goes. So we took the train which took us to the other building in the same airport, aah there was the immigration counter. But wait, to reach to it you had to fill 2more forms per head with only 1 pen.

One form had this warning about swine flu
-bringing it to the country is a crime.... and so on.
I thought they would do some thermal checking and stuff but 2 forms per head later we found ourselves standing at a long long queue at the immigration counter. Airport volunteers all around the place were scaring the tourists by wearing face masks.

This was probably the worst part of my journey. Standing in the queue where people of all nationalities were present. Not that I am xenophobic and all, but some of them were coughing and each cough scared the other passengers as much as it scared me and the worst part was the line was never getting shorter.
I then decided I am never leaving my country and going anywhere. Such long queues.Huh of course I took back those words later. After one long long hour we were through.
Thank god
so my journey began.......

WTF

It was 15th November, and I was standing on the Durg station platform waiting for my train. Finally the time had come. The next day I was about to take the most competitive exam in the world-CAT(Common Admission Test).
I had been waiting for this day since the last 3.5yrs.
The day I couldn't make it to the IIT's I had decided,I would crack the CAT.
Thanks to this thought I had underperformed throughout my graduation. I avoided over partying and over indulgence in college masti coz I had a plan in mind.
I dint want a great salary or value added to me,atleast not then. I just wanted to make a name for myself. To prove a point to everybody, especially myself that I was capable of competing with the best minds of the country,if not the world.People around me had landed into IIT's and NIT's then and later I realised I was better than most of them,or atleast I thought so and the reasons for this thought were more than one. Lets not get into the reasons now...
Coming back to the present I had a few butterflies in my stomach.I dint think about the D-Day much and roamed the entire station, greeting my friends and acquaintances. It looked like the entire steel city of ours was going to Nagpur to take the test.......
The train came and I fought hard to get into the right compartment.Deciphering which coach was which was itself like solving a DI questions.Confusion prevailed for some time and by the time the train moved we were in the right seats.
After 4.5 hrs of solving sudoku and chatting with the fellow passengers, most of who were CAT takers I finally was in Nagpur.
Reached my hotel had my lunch, and soon it was evening.Had many college mates staying at the same hotel,1 of them had the same center as I and we went to see our center...
Came back, relaxed a bit and off we went to catch a light dinner...
After dining and after seeing the IPL's 2nd finals between Hyderabad heroes and Lahore Badshahs we finally went to sleep..I was amongst the very few who could sleep soundly that night.
w.r.t sleeping i have always been very lucky. I can sleep at my will, but cannot get up at my will though....
finally the D day this was it. I knew I had to go there and had to give my best shot. Reached my center .5 hrs early and again met all my Bhilai friends there.
Time passed in a jiffy and before too long i was sitting in my seat...
The test started..
I started with maths...
was this CAT?? coz it dint look like. No original questions. Same old questions which I had seen atleast a thousand times before.I literally raced through this section. Wow good luck had stuck me the question I had solved a few days ago had come as it is.. I couldn't help laughing a bit. My benchmate saw me with an angry gaze and I went to solve this and pick up bonus 8 marks as there were 2 questions based on this funda. 50 minutes gone and 15 questions attempted. All was going according to plan...
next section I attempted was English. i always believed my English was good. I started galloping through this section. though i had decided i wouldn't attempt many in this section i couldn't help but tick 29 out off 40 questions here.wow success again
now it was time to win over DI too
but man wasn't this section tough
i tried and tried and couldn't maintain the pace i had solved the 2 sections.
I tried again and fell again
this section i thought was the toughest in CAT-2008
finally the bell rang and i handed over the paper to the invigilator.
my happy start had ended in a sad climax...
discussion and this and that followed and i thought i had done well..
but alas this feeling of joy was shot lived i had continued my tradition of making silly mistakes
the 2 questions which made me go gaga had just got me negative 2 marks. later i realised i had got 26+34 wrong
damn poorer by 10 marks. In DI/Lr section i got another sitter wrong..
I realised am done but still my fav section English was left to be checked I optimistically matched the answers of time with my question paper's and i got the 1st wrong the 2nd wrong third wrong again. a correct ans here and there and the majority wrong
boom i was doomed. the feeling sank that i had screwed the cat......
just then an IIT friend who too had appeared for this exam asked me my score. I was ashamed to tell it but yet i did and i was white with shame to know his marks. the guy who had not at all prepared for this had just got double my marks and in English itself had got 4times as many marks. I couldn't help but sink into despair...
I thought never mind common may be everybody has screwed it but then another Friend from NIT calicut caught me in gtalk and said he had screwed it too I thought huh finally some one else had screwed it too only to know that his bad was double my marks he surely had done a terrific job on the cat day an was now expecting calls from more than 1 iims...
man what had i done wrong...
i slept a sad man that day but then with the 1st rays of the sun i was in my best spirits again....
well though not quite but well......
Looking for the day when this optimism will pay......

Indian Television Industry

Indian industries are doing well,be it service sector or the manufacturing sector,of late all of them have been doing a reasonable job, save one.
THE TELEVISION INDUSTRY.
I believe this field has stayed stagnant for some time now. We have infinite number of channels and every day we see new channels being launched. When star-one was first launched we thought may be this would revive the moribund Indian televison but alas, the same channel has now stooped to the level of showing stupid saas bahu serials and other melodramatic soaps just like most of the other channels. Even reality shows have lost creativity, based on either song or dance(of which we have had enough), or simply baseless themes like lyrics guessing(even buffaloes are allowed in the show) etc. The point is we want more Ekta Kapoors and for god sakes no more of Ekta Kapoor. Name one original must watch show on Indian television. Comon name it. Am afraid you wouldn't be able to.
But lets see what American TV has got......
F.R.I.E.N.D.S, PrisonBreak,How I met your mother,Desperate Housewives,Drake and Josh,A moment of truth to name a few. The list is endless. Every english soap is a never seen before experience. Are we less creative ? Are we not as talented? I mean what has gone wrong with the Indian television. We are the same country which produced worldclass thrillers like Bomkesh Bakshi and Tehkikaat. A very important reason could be India is so busy producing Engineers and doctors that we are neglecting every other field-not to mention sports or cinema. So its time India wakes up and produces some soaps and serials which we would be proud,Eough Ekta Kapoor stuff.Lets bring back better Bomkesh Baksheeshs and detective Sam D'souza(lead from thekikaat). Lets save our dying televison industry.

Is bringing back POTA such a good idea?

POTA(Prevention Of Terrorist Activities)-A brainchild of the NDA government is being seen by the opposition as the panacea to current terrorist problems.
I dont think so.
POTA which gives the police full authority to put some one under arrest for 180 days without citing reasons for the same in the court is a clear cut case of human rights violation.
Benjamin franklin said once
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
That clearly sums things up. Police in India which is quite infamous already for corruption and inefficiency might not handle this additional power well, resulting in people being unnecessarily troubled, with little results. Countries like USA and ENGLAND which learned their lessons are now on full alert for terror acts. India should take a leaf out of their books and rather than getting distracted by these irrelevant rules should try tested procedures like establishing a federal agency, exclusively for fighting terror. Thus Indian govt and opposition should respect people's liberty and should rather opt for strict and vigilant policing , rather than an over powerful inefficient one.
