Indian National Anthem

An anthem is a song of praise.A national anthem is a song which is sung by every patriot,in praise of one's motherland.Talking about Indian national anthem- its not our motherland's praise "jana gana mana..........".
its translation is

"O! Dispenser of India's destiny, thou art the ruler of the minds of all people
Thy name rouses the hearts of Punjab, Sindh, Gujarat, the Maratha country,
in the Dravida country, Utkala and Bengal;
It echoes in the hills of the Vindhyas and Himalayas,
it mingles in the rhapsodies of the pure waters of Yamuna and the Ganges.
They chant only thy name.
They seek only thy auspicious blessings.
They sing only the glory of thy victory.
The salvation of all people waits in thy hands,
O! Dispenser of India's destiny, thou art the ruler of the minds of all people
Victory to thee, Victory to thee, Victory to thee,
Victory, Victory, Victory, Victory to thee!"

It has been copied from a trustworthy site so translation is 100% accurate. Additional facts are this poem was composed by "Rabindra Nath Tagore" to welcome king George V to India. India, as most of you would be aware was under British rule then.
When in this anthem we sing "O! Dispenser of India's destiny" are we referring to God or are we referring to the British??
Lets believe its God. I am no atheist but isnt an anthem supposed to praise your motherland, your country. Not a single line in our anthem does so.
And if we consider it "The Britsh" then....
Why does the anthem talk about bengal, sindh, maratha precisely those areas which were under the "her majesty's" rule. Lets further not talk about this possibility.

As a curiosity I checked out what other countries' anthem's lyrics are.
Though Pakistan can hardly provide India inspiration on many things, national anthem is one of those. By looking at those lyrics you feel what India's anthem is missing.
62 yrs of independence gone. Still we can do something about it...........

Graduate Education in India

Graduate education of India is in bad shape. You are taught things which you by no chance remember after 2 months of the examination. Be it IITs or NITs or any other college offering technical education in the country the syllabus is totally useless, practicals are given little importance and cramming is the key to high percentages. Does remembering facts like 32bits block size for A algorithm, 64bits for B ,79 for C etc help when you can, as Albert Einstein said check that out in a factbook. What matters is you remember which algorithm is most efficient and how it works so that if by any slightest chance you get into research field you would be able to better it.
All engineers would agree that by slashing few unimportant subjects(which are majority of them) the time span of four years can be easily reduced to two, and with better subjects inclusion and more practical emphasis Indian engineers would not only do the justice to the hardwork they put in they would stand second to none in Technical know how.

J & K burning

For five and a half decades now people of J&k have been voicing their dis satisfactions against their own country of India. Efforts of every government to make them less paranoid have proved futile. Finally after 56yrs of Kashmiri independence(Kashmir got independence in 1951 when the nizam of Kashmir decided to join India after considering the options of staying independent and joining Pakistan) eminent personalities are speaking in favour of the their independence or rather supporting plebiscite. By the current events it really looks both are the same.
Amarnath land issue which started with minor protests has now spiralled into a very serious issue
"Should India let go kashmir ?" should India cut itself off a state which has shown little gratitude to the Indian hand for the last half a century? People like Arundhati Roy and Swaminathan A. Iyer talk in the affirmative and they have a good reason. Kashmiris could never consider India theirs .They might have their own reasons but is it right to consider a country which has lifted its poverty levels from worst in India to best in India thier enemy, the country which has prevented them from the fundamentalism of Pakistan, the country which has stressed its education need better than many of its states. The country which has shown no double standards between them and the other Indian states?Kashmirs even after being Indians were seen voicing serious anti Indian slogans. Wishing India lots of misfortune. Why cant they be peaceful? Why cant they take government to court? Such questions have been asked since the last 50 yrs now. May be the time has come to consider their independence or even grant them that. But I prefer Government should deal with the blockade of jammu Kashmir highway with an iron fist and then bring the kasmiri leaders to the table. Should allow them referendum, but after a fixed time may be 2yrs and should try all their best to woo them till them- by making them count what they could have been without India and what they are now.

what do you think should be the solution to this problem.
