Graduate education of India is in bad shape. You are taught things which you by no chance remember after 2 months of the examination. Be it IITs or NITs or any other college offering technical education in the country the syllabus is totally useless, practicals are given little importance and cramming is the key to high percentages. Does remembering facts like 32bits block size for A algorithm, 64bits for B ,79 for C etc help when you can, as Albert Einstein said check that out in a factbook. What matters is you remember which algorithm is most efficient and how it works so that if by any slightest chance you get into research field you would be able to better it.
All engineers would agree that by slashing few unimportant subjects(which are majority of them) the time span of four years can be easily reduced to two, and with better subjects inclusion and more practical emphasis Indian engineers would not only do the justice to the hardwork they put in they would stand second to none in Technical know how.

impressed by your style..
very true man....... in our country education is like to vomit, whatever hav been grasped, in the examination & forget. this is so b'coz very less emphasis is given on practcal knowlwdge. just think abt d doctors, they remember many things b'coz their practicals are given utmost importance..
gud work..... continue with it....
hey man,,that was cool.. although i would like to point out a couple of points...
-> speaking of a curricula of 4 yrs, isnt it the undergraduate education we are talking about? graduate education in most colleges is still 2 years...
-> and if undergraduate education is considered, the motive the institute has in mind is to form a pyramid-like structure for curriculum... in ur 1st year, you are taught all sorts of crap, but the subjects narrow down and become more specific towards the end of the final year. Here, the main aim I guess is to impart an overall sense of different fields of study, and then pinpointing your specific field in the senior years. Thought the idea seems cool,I do agree that the courses should be revised and made less elaborate than they already are to divest our efforts in something we like, which may not necessarily be oyr majors always...
-> and lastly... dude, its India you are talking about. Why are you showing foreign students to support your article?? ( :P )
( sorry for being a critic.. but u asked me to read it.... :) )
Well yes,we do need to revamp our educational system...But terming it as all crap is not something I wud agree to..We should know basics of every field..As its rightly said,"LEARNING NEVER GOES WASTE"
u never know where r u u going to land up!!Moreover, one can definitely work up on his sujects of interest during d final yrs.
Newayz it was interesting to c ur blog..Kip up d gud work!!!
ya it's sad but true. V technical diciples hav wasted much of our tym n energy in this humdrum. But instead of acting lyk cumbersome creatures, v can wrk 4 ourselves by thinking innovatively, not depending on the college/university.
Thanx for placing the present scenario prob.
very true man..........
